Sabash Sariyana Potti is a 2011 tamil movie directed by Venu Arvind (directorial debut) starring jayaram, sriranjani and delhi ganesh in lead roles. Music composed by Thaman.
Story:
A good tale gone sour, the film begins on the backdrop of Vadapatti village and here lives Gnana Guru (sriram) along with his bunch of friends (anjana and others). His mother (sriranjani) wants him to become big in life. Meanwhile, Guru and his friends are big fans of mass hero JR (jayaram) and always watch his film first day first show. The story takes a turn when JR comes to the village and his attention is caught by Gnana Guru. JR insists Guru to come to Chennai to try in cinema. Inspired, Guru comes to Chennai but is shocked to discover the true nature of JR. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.
Presentation:
The director has come up with an appealing storyline and while the presentation was alright, the narrative was not good. The dialogues were good in parts, the script was fluctuating and the screenplay was inconsistent. Background score was nice and three songs were upto the mark. Cinematography was appealing in capturing the locations. Editing was required during many situations. Costumes were natural while the art department was matching. Sriram Karthik came up with a decent act and did justice to his role, Anjana was alright, Sri Ranjani was matured, the real show stealer was Jayaram with his antics, Delhi Ganesh was decent, Vayapuri was regular, Mayilsamy was moderate.
Conclusion:
The film comes across as a comedy caper and the maker has attempted to defy logic and take cinematic liberties. In this process, the content got overboard and missed the mark by few feet. While the first half is lighter with the comedy and romance, the second half gets dramatic with the reality show concept and other sentimental dose. Overall, the film could have worked if there was reasoning in the narrative. At the box office, this could be a below average grosser.
